Whaddweknow about Pilot View?
Well, thanks to Cody Raney, who we customized this shirt for, we found out this...
"It's a small community named in 1775 or 1776.
When Daniel Boone came over the Gap he traveled through what would be Estill County. There he scouted a knob that looked high enough to see the surrounding area.
When he reached the top he spotted a flat place roughly 10 miles away and headed that direction. Upon reaching the plateau it was reported he said to Capt. Holder that they had piloted their way to that place (in some variation or another). When he looked back towards the knob it was readily visible. So he said I'll call that the Pilot Knob and this is the Pilot View.
One of his sisters is buried under an old oak at the bottom of the hill and the original Boone farm is beside of the Mountain Parkway off of Schoolsville Rd. My best friend is a direct descendant and still lives close to the farm. His grandmother is a Boone in fact. She grew up on the farm and is still kicking at 100.
A community built up around the school which was put on the site Daniel spotted 242 years ago. Everything from the school, to Ecton Rd, to Kiddville, and back to Goshen is considered Pilot View. The people there are tied together by blood, work, and hundreds of years of living together. My family was there from the 1780's until we left and moved to town in 2000. Even still, it is a part of anyone who has lived there and I go back often."
