The Phoenix Brewing Company was one of the 30+ breweries in Louisville back in the day.
It ran from 1883-1916 and its HQ was the hillside above Beargrass Creek on the west side of Baxter between Barret and Hull streets.
It was -- at the time -- the largest brewery in Kentucky, cranking out more than 17,000 barrels of Bohemian, Wurzburger, and Lager a year. Of course, when Prohibition came along, bye-bye went the brewery.
