This is one of the most wonderful stories in Kentucky high school basketball lore. Year: 1951. little school from Graves County is taught how to play like the Harlem Globetrotters and, then, runs off to the state tourney with only one loss to their discredit, then runs into a buzzsaw of a team in Clark County in the final and loses by 24 points.
The next year the Cubs vowed to win it all and win it all they did -- in double-overtime over DuPont Manual. Hero of the game? A kid named Charles "Doodle" Floyd!
Now, The Uncommonwealth has added Cuba's lore to our huge list of retro-styled wear. If you have a basketball fan or a Graves Countian in your extended family, pick this up for 'em.
If you wanna read more about it, check this out from Murray State's WKMS or watch this segment from the Kentucky Sports Legends series, produced by Sonora's Charles Thurman.
