We're not making this Big Bone Lick thing up. Well, kinda makin' up the t-shirt, but the state park is for real. It gets its name thanks to some big arse bones and a salt lick found there and feels qualified to bill itself as "the birthplace of American paleontology," a term which William Clark (of Lewis and) coined during his little jaunt westward.
What kind of bones? Pleistocene megafauna ones. That, mon frere, is the set of large animals that lived on Earth during the Pleistocene epoch and became extinct during the Quaternary extinction event. Megafauna is a term used to describe an animal with an adult body weight of over 97 pounds. The governor and lieutenant governor of the Uncommonwealth are megafauna. Y tu, tambien?
