Angela Merici was an all-girls Catholic high school in Louisville's South End.
Groundbreaking for the school was way back in 1958. The cornerstone was laid in 1959 and in September of that year, the school welcomed 135 students - 90 freshman, 45 sophomores - 8 staff members (7 sisters and 1 lay teacher). Sr. Marjorie Burge, the first principal. Tuition was a whoppin' $180.
Over its 22 year run, the school graduated 2,394 wonderful ladies... the volleyball team went to the state tournament... the basketball team broke records.
The school closed at end of the 1984 school year with 102 graduates. Angela Merici merged with Bishop David High School and a new co-educational high school named Holy Cross High School was born.
It's Angela Merici's final year we pay tribute to -- "One Last Ride" down the Ohio holding the Junior-Senior prom on the Belle of Louisville.
