In a piece in the Courier-Journal, reporter Jeffrey Puckett mourned the passing of Louisville's famous dive bars -- Freddies, Jake's Club Reno, and Deddens Highland Fling. We're sure some of you have been to at least one of those places, probably under the guise of being curious, right?
Personally, we've been to Dedden's and it was every inch a true dive bar. Every. Single. Inch.
Owned by Lois Deddens, a former teacher at Presentation Academy and a French professor at Spalding University and IUS, Lois was the sole proprietor of Deddens Highland Fling for 25 years. She met you at the door, checked you up and down, and if she thought you were compatible with her little cinematic version of a nightclub, gave you the head tilt to go on in.
So, to Lois, to Jeffrey, to all the dive bar fans in the River City, we give you a Dedden's Highland Fling shirt. It says, "I closed down Dedden's Highland Fling Last Night" and whether you did or didn't, at least you'll let the world know that you're a person of true adventure.
This thick cotton t-shirt makes for a go-to wardrobe staple! It's comfortable, soft, and its tubular construction means it's less fitted.
